Resident Testimonial: Gavin*

David* presented to our service as alcohol dependant. He was working with several supportive services including the Complex Case team in his local authority, local substance misuse services, street outreach and the Probation Service, to name only a few.

David was rough sleeping and had also started using novel psychoactive substances (NPS) and Crack Cocaine.

David had previously served several short prison sentences, but was unfortunately homeless again shortly after each release.

Due to David’s needs, situation and background, sourcing accommodation was difficult and he faced a series of rejections from providers who could not offer him support. This rejection understandably impacted upon David’s outlook and hope for the future.

David was referred to our programme by his Recovery Worker, where he was provided with a short-term tenancy and a robust support plan.
Partner agencies noted that within a short time the difference in David was described as remarkable.

Though David’s behaviour was still challenging at times, he received support in dealing with this, alongside support for his physical and mental health needs and activities which helped him spend his day productively doing things he enjoyed.

Professionals involved in David’s care noted that as a result of his time in our supported living, he is now more settled than he has been in years.
