How has your experience with Fortix been so far?
It’s been really positive, and I am really enjoying it. The team is really welcoming, and I feel supported in what I do.

What made you choose a career in HR within supported housing?
I’ve always liked helping people, and HR in supported housing felt like a place where my work could genuinely make a difference. It isn’t the easiest sector to do HR in; it comes with many challenges, but I am learning a lot.

What skills are most important for someone working in HR in supported housing?
Good listening, patience, clear communication, and being able to organise and prioritise many tasks.

How do you support new staff when they join the team?
I support new staff from the moment they are recruited all the way through their employment, so I’m available from day one to guide them through each step. I make sure they feel welcomed and at ease, as starting a new role can be overwhelming. I provide a clear induction pack, so they know what to expect and have all the essential information. I also stay in regular contact during their early weeks to answer questions, check how they’re settling in, and ensure they know where to get support. This helps them feel confident, informed, and part of the team.

What challenges do you face in your role?
Balancing different tasks at once can be tough, especially when things change quickly.

How do you handle stressful situations at work?
I take a moment to breathe, break things down into steps, and lean on the team when I need to.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work in HR in this sector?
Stay people-focused, be open to learning, and don’t be afraid to ask questions; this field grows with you.
